Private Loans

The Office of Financial Aid at Rice University does not award non-need based loans in the initial award package. If the student is ineligible for need-based aid, there are other loan options available to help meet educational expenses. Prior to applying for a private loan, we recommend that students review other possible alternatives including Federal Direct Loans or for Texas Residents, the College Access Loan.

Apply for a Private Loan

Students may apply online with a lender of their choice. A credit check will be processed once the application is submitted and a cosigner may be required.

In order to secure funding, approved applicants must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Self-Certification Form with their lender. Both forms must be completed in order to receive any funding.  Your lender will disclose the expected disbursement date the funds will post to your student account.

The lender will submit the approved loan application to the Office of Financial Aid for certification.  Please allow a minimum processing time of 3 - 5 business days before the loan is added to your financial aid package.  All awards can be viewed via ESTHER.

The Office of Financial Aid provides a list of private lenders that we have researched through a formal survey process. Below is a list of private lenders who work closely with Rice University. It is your responsibility to choose the lender that is right for you, and you are not limited to this list.
