Federal and State Grants

Students with a federal Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of less than $4,041 are eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant.  The amount of each grant is determined by the student's EFC.  These funds are provided by the federal government and are available to you as long as you qualify.  In order to continue receiving the funds after your first year, you must complete the FAFSA annually and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress as determined by Rice University.

Students from Texas may also qualify for a Texas Equalization Grant (TEG).  These funds are limited and are awarded to students with the most need on a first come, first served basis.  The state of Texas offers various other grants depending on your financial circumstances.  To research these grants, please visit the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's website.
