Outside Award Policy

Outside awards are considered resources and will reduce the amount of need-based financial aid you are offered in the initial financial aid package. Reductions in need-based aid will occur in the following order:

  • Federal Stafford Loan (Subsidized)*
  • Federal Perkins Loan*
  • Federal Work-study*
  • Rice Tuition Grant
  • Other institutional need-based grants/scholarships
  • State and Federal grants*

*If your initial financial aid package does not include federal need-based loans or work study, then Rice Tuition Grant and other institutional/state/federal need-based grants/scholarships will be reduced first. Pell grants will not be affected by outside awards.
