Student athletes have the option to be evaluated for need-based institutional aid and can opt to receive need-based institutional aid in lieu of their athletic scholarship. Need-based aid eligibility is based on various factors such as family income, household size, number in college, asset information, and more. For information on applying for need-based visit Applying for Aid.
Athletic scholarship amounts are determined by the Athletics Department. We work closely with the Athletics Department to determine these amounts based on each student’s grant-in-aid percentage.
While Student athletes at Rice cannot receive both need-based institutional aid and athletic scholarships, all student athletes may apply for certain federal student aid such as the Pell Grant or Federal Direct Loans. A valid FAFSA must be on file for any federal student aid consideration.
