Financial aid at Rice is meant to assist students with educational costs. Aid comes in two primary forms - gift aid and self-help aid.
Gift aid is aid that does not have to be paid back. It can come in the form of grants, scholarship, merit awards and outside awards from various sources, such as the institution, the state, private organizations or the federal government.
Self-help aid is aid that is either earned through work or has to be paid back, i.e. student employment (work-study) and student loans.
Your financial aid package may be comprised of both gift and self-help aid. Form more details about the individual financial aid programs, please review the pages in the Types of Aid section.
