Additional Cost of Attendance Information

  1. Living expenses (housing and food) are based on a full time, degree seeking student who is living on-campus or off-campus (not with family). If your cost of attendance is reduced (due to living at home or for another reason), your financial aid may also be reduced. Please contact us if you have questions.
  2. Freshmen are also billed a $360 Orientation Week fee. If the student stays on campus during orientation, then there is also a $540 housing and meals fee. International freshmen are also billed $395 for Undergraduate International Orientation.
  3. Students are required to maintain health insurance coverage while enrolled at Rice. Health insurance is not included in the standard Cost of Attendance and is an additional billable cost if the student cannot demonstrate coverage by a comparable insurance plan.
  4. Rice estimates a travel expense in addition to the indirect costs listed above. The estimate is $300 for in-state, $700 for out-of-state, and $3,000 for foreign country residents.
  5. For international students requiring visa sponsorship from Rice, please note that the financial proof required for the I-20 may be different than the financial estimate provided here.
