Consumer Information

This webpage provides links to information about Rice University on a variety of subjects. This information may be helpful to prospective and current students, their families, high school counselors and coaches, and prospective and current employees. This information is presented to comply with the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, which requires institutions of higher education to disclose information and reports on various aspects of the institution's policies, procedures, operations and costs.

Voluntary Consent for Electronic Transactions

Email and the ESTHER portal are the primary way Rice University, schools of study, and departments communicate important information to students. This includes managing your financial aid, student financial information such as your 1098T statement, class registration, and other student record actions. Some of these electronic transactions and agreements may involve financial obligations. You must provide your electronic consent to allow the University to communicate with you electronically. You granted your permission when you activated your Rice NetID.

If you choose to opt out of electronic communication and transactions, you will not have access to ESTHER and other systems linked to the NetID, which includes the majority of systems at Rice. To obtain more information about conducting business with individual campus offices offline, contact the Office of the Registrar. Note that manual, non-electronic alternatives will result in longer and delayed processing times and not all services may be available through non-electronic means.

CARES Act Emergency Funding for Student

The Coronavirus Assistance, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act approved more than $14 billion in support for higher education. Using a formula based on both total enrollment and the share of enrolled students eligible for Pell Grants, Rice University has been allocated $3,433,160 of which at least 50% must be distributed in grants to students in recognition of expenses and financial hardship related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus.
